A new service is being promoted in Shanghai's Pudong New Area that offers people with walking difficulties free use of electric stair-climbing wheelchairs.

Elderly people and individuals with disabilities who live in old buildings without elevators can call the service by phone or make reservations using an app for on-site use of an electric stair-climbing wheelchair.

Users are offered up to 120 free services per year, said Ma Jianhua, an official with the Disabled Persons' Association of Pudong New Area.
