Global survey on access to assistive technology

        Industry News Jan. 14, 2025

Welcome to our global survey on assistive technology

In 2018, the World Health Assembly recognized the need for better access to assistive technology through its first resolution on the topic. This led to the 2022 Global report on assistive technology by WHO and UNICEF, which highlighted the need, barriers to access, and provided ten key recommendations.

Since then, there has been a growing interest for detailed guidance on how to implement these recommendations. In response, WHO and UNICEF are developing a road map to guide efforts across governments, organizations, and communities.

This survey will help shape the roadmap. We invite everyone interested in assistive technology to participate, including assistive technology users, policy makers, government and non-government service providers, product designers and manufacturers, educators, development partners, researchers, advocates, donors and more.

Your participation will help to ensure diverse perspectives are considered as we create a shared vision and framework for action. Share your thoughts and help us pave the way for a more inclusive world!

Before you begin, please keep in mind these important definitions:

Assistive technology is an umbrella term for assistive products and the systems and services needed to ensure effective access.

Assistive products can range from physical products such as wheelchairs, spectacles, pill organizers, magnifiers, toilet chairs and hearing aids, to digital solutions such as text to speech, screen reading or time management software and captioning.

For more information and facts about assistive technology, please visit the WHO website.

        Survey structure

This survey consists of four parts:

Part 1 – Information about you (remember your answers are anonymous).

Part 2 – Who needs assistive technology?

Part 3 – Where should assistive technology be provided?

Part 4 – How can access to assistive technology be accelerated?
